I’d seen so many beautiful things and met so many amazing people, people with stories of lives much different from mine in many ways, and very similar in others.

After only two trips to Italy, and many other trips elsewhere, Italy drew us back, this time for a couple years.

I personally get annoyed when I hear people saying that Sardinian beaches are “like those of the Caribbean” – because having been to the Caribbean myself, I can tell you that they are much much more beautiful, and the transparency of the water can’t be beaten. Italians love their families, their love for Italian food, Italian music, and Italian traditions is so overwhelming. The nice thing about this region is that it’s dotted with picturesque little towns and villages and there are plenty of possibilities to taste some of the best Italian food.

Espresso has a lot of varieties today such as caffé macchiato, caffé coretto, caffé americano or caffé lungo. Since I was a small child, I’ve loved the ancient world, from the stories and myths to the art and languages. For those who have already been to Italy’s iconic cities one or more times, what do you suggest next? From the colorful festivals and processions to the ancient rituals and customs, Italy offers a glimpse into a world that is both familiar and enchanting. Dianne Hales’ just-released book, La Passione: How Italy Seduced the World (Crown Archetype, 2019), masterfully examines the multitude of reasons why so many people fall in love with Italy and the Italian lifestyle.

The first was as an angst-ridden Year 10 teenager taking one of the coveted spots on a school ski trip primarily filled with Year 11 teenagers. We took the train to Verona, where we accidentally took a bus ride without paying, climbed another tower, and discovered the beauty of an Aperol Spritz. Venice has the picturesque canals; Florence possesses incredible structures dating back centuries; Cinque Terre is home to a collection of the most colourful houses I’ve ever seen. This week I'm so excited to be joining the Dolce Vita Blogger link up, hosted by Kelly from italianatheart. These have their share of old buildings including churches, and Tours has plenty of chateau nearby along the Loire Valley.Instead, we made the impromptu decision to go to Venice together, and then extended the trip to go to Florence. Italians are naturally warm and enthusiastic, always ready to engage in a heartfelt conversation or offer assistance.
