We slowly learn that the good Father has a sickly mother (Hilda Barry) that he loves very dearly but is being abused by one-eyed caretaker Miss Brabazon (played eerily by Walker regular Shelia Keith), whose reasons for abusing her will be revealed later on.

They all had stories that suggested that people in authority (especially in the Catholic Church) will more than likely abuse that authority and abuse it in such an underhanded way as to cause the deaths of the people they are supposed to be protecting. When Father Cutler confronts Father Meldrum about the tape, Meldrum plays another tape that makes Jenny look like she is lying. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. THE CONFESSIONAL is also known as HOUSE OF MORTAL SIN (also available on Blu-Ray from Redemption Films/Kino Lorber under this title) and THE CONFESSIONAL MURDERS. He always came across as kindly and genteel, but with an undercurrent of perversion, as if he almost certainly would've been caught masturbating in public, but into a pressed silk handkerchief or something.

The jury's still out on House Of Mortal Sin (aka The Confessional), but you can't deny that it's entertaining. Having had a crack at the judiciary it was time for Pete Walker to turn his sights on the Catholic Church. With a whammy of gruesome, giallo-esque violence, firm footed pacing and an ending that shows just how mad Walker can get it's a standout in his filmography. After an uncomfortable encounter at the confessional, she is subsequently harassed, intimidated and threatened with extortion.

A Catholic priest who gets his jollies from listening to confessions, becomes obsessed with one of the young women who opened herself up to him. We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Then our star "Jenny" (Susan Penhaligon) meets up with her old school buddy (Norman Eshley) who is now a priest. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows. Having the villainous murderer a repressed and crazed Catholic priest in modern times brought a new and different kind of monster to the catalog of British horror, and he’s marvelously played by Anthony Sharp. Anthony Sharp gives a good performance in his role as Father Xavier Meldrum, the priest whose actions make him a really unlikeable character, while Susan Penhaligon is decent as Jenny, the young woman who is determined to try and get away from the priest, but she knows it won’t be easy.

After finding out that Meldrum tapes his confessions and uses them for blackmail, Jenny runs away (again), and is overjoyed (?

Its plot concerns a deranged priest who takes it upon himself to punish his parishioners for their moral transgressions. Originally Peter Cushing was offered to play Father Xavier Meldrum and at the time there were some rumours that Cushing hated the script. Haven’t watched this in quite a long time and it was just the late night excursion into seedy giallo-esque trash that I needed. McGillivray’s script is full of inventive ideas which were obviously meant to shock and stir up controversy. org/wiki/Pete_Walker_(director) , he had made films that fell under various categories in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, frequently using the same cast of characters.
