There is a perceived wisdom that says "a minute in the glass per year in the cask" for malt whisky to breathe an find its optimum balance.

Flavour: Full-bodied and robust, the sherry and the oak fight for your attention yet neither is overpowering.Today, the Glenfarclas spirit still lives strong and continues in family ownership under the direction of 5th generation owner, John Grant. This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. The award-winning Glenfarclas 25 Year Old expression boasts a unique character that comes from the additional maturation in 100% Oloroso Sherry casks. Medium to long with sweet bitter almonds, it reveals itself again and again with the barrel selection. The palate is sweet and balanced, offering warm apple tart, cinnamon, cooked blueberries, raisins, toffee, and Christmas cake, with a slight and appealing hint of soapiness. The sherry influence blends nicely with the oak, resulting in an enthralling clash of flavours in which neither element overpowers the other. Glenfarclas is one of the only family-run distilleries in Scotland and has been in the Grant family for generations. Regardless of whether the Service offers the functionality to contribute, you are solely responsible and liable for any content and information that you create, upload, post, publish, link to, duplicate, transmit, record, display or otherwise make available on the Service or to other Members, such as chat messages, text messages, videos, audio, audio recordings, music, pictures, photographs, text and any other information or materials, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted (“Contributions”). Earthy notes of dried leaves, wet wool, and a hint of maltiness start things off on the nose, then citrus and red apple. Aromas of raisins, butterscotch and sweet spices fill the nose, and the palate offers notes of dark chocolate, orange peel, banana, raisins and caramel.

The palate opens with notes of fruit cake, salted caramel and rich oak, developing buttery pastry, raisins and fruity espresso flavours and dry waxiness. I liked and continue to admire that Glenfarclas is one of the last family-owned distilleries in Scotland.Glenfarclas means ‘Valley of the Green Grassland’ and the spring water, which ensures the verdant green grass, is essential to the distinct flavour of Glenfarclas Highland Single Malt Whisky. But, in a whisky landscape largely dominated by far-away multinational corporations, I understood why they make such a point to sell this fairly unique aspect of the distillery. There it is combined with the finest malted barley, twice distilled in traditional, direct fired, copper pot stills and only the lightest and best fractions of alcohol are collected to be filled into the finest Spanish Sherry oak casks and lie maturing over many years.

Each and every Member must be of legal drinking age in its country of residence to be allowed to use the Service. I recently finally opened the bottle and have been nursing it for a couple of months now, hoping it would open up before I reviewed it.

The Glenfarclas 25 has a stunning amber hue with alluring dark gold tints, owing to its lengthy maturing period.
