With an abundance of historic facts and an informative how to guide, teaching the reader the basics everyone must know when having their very own quintessential afternoon tea. by the “wet lettuce” of a footman, Alfred just before he leaves the Abbey completely… I didn’t see that coming oddly. The journey was less than glamorous despite first class coach travel on the train – I got locked in the train toilets for half an hour on a blisteringly hot day which melted my face and ruined my hair… After gracefully recovering from this ordeal we made our way through London to the Ritz in the back of a Black Cab. As for the afternoon tea I think that was not great, Cannot fault the staff but the whole experience of it wasn’t good enough, The marquee where we sat and had the afternoon tea was done very cheaply inside, I was expecting something grand as we were meant to be having afternoon tea at a castle!

Introduced in the early 1700s at the Chelsea Bun House in South West London, this currant bun, made famous by proprietor Richard Hand – aka Captain Bun – became the must-have treat for that era and beyond.

low (afternoon), the two types of tea plants and how the tea leaves are prepared to make the different varieties of tea. And, if you want to tune in before then, you will be able to access all the previous episodes of Viking TV and At Home at Highclere Castle Fridays. Gorgeous food photographs, lifestyle stills from the television series and recent movie, and character quotes bring the characters of Downton Abbey—and this rich tradition—to life in contemporary times. It was a spectacular tea as well as being brilliant fun and I should add that we weren’t shy about asking for extra cakes too! Arrived in the morning to visit the gardens and enjoyed a lovely walk through the stunning grounds followed by a tour of the house where we spent time in the rooms so recognisable from Downton Abbey.

Lots of the recipes are for traditional English cakes, such as Battenberg, Crumpets or Chelsea Buns that you would find in many another book, but it's good to have it all together in one for those who wish to serve a traditional English Afternoon tea to their friends and family. These tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable, so please do make sure you are certain of the date you wish to visit prior to purchase.

It’s an easy-to-make, incredibly moist, and delicious buttery snack cake perfect for, snacking, of course, but also for teatime, breakfast, with coffee, or for midnight cravings. With lunch at noon and dinner at eight, the afternoon tea proved the perfect answer to snacking politely before mealtime, and small, delicate finger sandwiches played a big role in quelling late-afternoon hunger. The book then turns to 70 recipes for delicious bakes, bites and assorted sweet and savoury delights to accompany a delightful afternoon tea, with sections on: Pastries, buns and biscuits - Whip up classics like the cream scone or chelsea buns, as well as enticing delicacies such as raspberry eclairs and chocolate florentines. Tea sandwiches and savoury bites – Enjoy mini pork pies and cornish pasties, or make carefully trimmed tea sandwiches to complete any spread.

I think the hardened afternoon tea aficionado will enjoy the experience but will soon beat a track back to the Savoy (our favourite, although, now becoming quite touristy too), Browns or the Langham which all offer an experience that feels much less like you are just part of an afternoon tea production line to be processed and sent out before the next tourist can be seated. I also discovered in this book that there is such a thing as mock clotted cream and a recipe for it. En este de libro de excepcional belleza y con una amplia cantidad de prácticas recetas para degustar el famoso Afternoon tea en el hogar, puedes además disfrutar de unas fotografías impresionantes sobre la bellísima serie de televisión Británica Downton Abbey.

Crowberry Wood is a Yorkshire business run by a group of women who are passionate about fashion and the countryside where they live. I’ve enjoyed reading this book with interesting information on the history of the recipes and English tea.
