Artpens are modern fountain pens, but their elegant design preserves the feel and balance of traditional dip pens. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Too thin for big fingers, too long to be taken seriously, there really is no need, even for an art pen to be so long.

I did find that broken lines were a little more challenging draw because the ink flowed so readily but again, this is something to get used to rather than a fault with the pen. Fast writing is not ideal with these nibs, not only because of ink flow but because it's hard to keep them properly aligned with the page. Ideal for fine drawing, sketching, drafts and good for colouring large areas as they feature robust fibre tips for even and precise strokes. The Lyra Art Pen is a superb, artist quality tool for allcolouring techniques, artistic drawing and sketches. Perhaps using the converter with a fountain-pen safe waterproof ink may offer a solution for watercolorists.Having gone from the process of going to school, using any pen one can lay their hands on, pens in blister packs, cheap ballpoint pens and the one parker 25 that was saved slavishly for, as an adult, this came as a nice surprise. I'm used to fineliners and the ocassional brush tip and fine dip nib, so this 'extra fine' nib seems fairly chunky for such a designation.

I had no problems with hatching (other than the already mentioned hook marks if I wasn’t careful) and the smooth flow of the ink made shading a joy. The sleeve has the Rotring logo, Germany 1928, and the product name on it, along with pen details on the back. This pen has only a very slight ball so the line feels and looks pretty crisp yet it is also smooth. The nibs can be a little skippy on coated/smooth paper, which can be annoying, but overall they perform well. I have the Carbon Pen which is great and a DP-1000 is on the way but I'm wondering if you know whether it will be okay with the Carbon ink or should I stick with regular fountain pen ink? I’ve noticed that when a fountain pen nib has a big round “ball” shape at the tip, the pen will be very smooth, but you won't have crisp line feeling when you drawing. We believe that giving children the right materials, they will make and play with beautiful things that last a lifetime. It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc.

I tried fixing the metal-end back to its plastic body, but I noticed that writing with it was no longer the same anymore – the ink-flow was permanently affected, being rather inconsistent. The Rotring Art Pen is, to all intents and purposes, a fountain pen that’s intended for drawing and sketching.I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. And is there a similar pen that is more readily available here in the states theat will perform similarly to this?
